Men, Beware of Abnormalities in the Scrotum and Testicles

Abnormalities in the scrotum and testicles are usually characterized by the appearance of swelling around the area. This swelling can be accompanied by pain or not, and is usually caused by inflammation, fluid buildup, and abnormal growth in the scrotum. Swelling in the scrotum can occur only in one scrotum, or both. Quite often when the scrotum is swollen, the testicles also swell. Swelling of the scrotum and testicles is a health problem that needs to be examined by a doctor.

Various disorders of the scrotum and testicles

Scrotum itself is one part of the male reproductive organs. The shape is a leather pouch that hangs at the bottom of the penis and acts as a wrapper for the testes. There are several abnormalities that might occur in the scrotum and testicles that you should be aware of, namely:
  • Hydrocele

  • Hydrocele is a condition when the scrotum sac is filled with fluid that surrounds the testes. Usually hydrocele does not harm the testicles. In addition, this condition also generally does not cause pain and can disappear by itself. But if inflammation occurs, it can be painful or cause discomfort in the scrotum. Although hydrocele is more common in infants, but this condition can also be experienced by adult men at all ages. If you find any part of the scrotum or testicles swelling, it is advisable to immediately see a doctor, especially if it occurs suddenly accompanied by pain.
  • Varicocele

  • Varicoceles are swollen veins in the scrotum. This condition can occur in either the scrotum or both, but it is more common in the left scrotum. This is because the vein on the left side is bigger than on the right side. Varicoceles can begin at the age of 15 years to around the age of 25 years. Varicoceles should not be underestimated, because they can cause a decrease in sperm production and quality, make testicular size smaller, and even cause infertility.
  • Testicular torsion

  • Torsion testis is a condition in which the sperm ducts in the scrotum are twisted, causing the blood flow to the testicles to be obstructed. The cause of this sperm channel is still not known with certainty, but this condition is associated with genetic factors. One of the symptoms is severe pain that arises suddenly in the testis. Totoro testis is very dangerous, because if it occurs for several hours can cause tissue in the testicles to die and risk causing permanent damage to the testicles. This condition is usually experienced by adolescent boys aged 12 to 18 years. However, torsion testis can also occur in infants or in adulthood.
  • Epididymitis

  • Epididymitis is an inflammatory condition that occurs in the epididymis. The epididymis itself is a channel in the back of the testis that functions to carry and store sperm. Epididymitis is usually caused by infection, one of which is due to sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). When the epididymis becomes inflamed, it is not uncommon that the testicles also become inflamed. This condition is called epididimo-orchitis. All men can experience epididymitis, but this condition is more often experienced by men aged 14 to 35 years. Epididymitis usually gets better soon after being given antibiotics by a doctor.
  • Testicular cancer

  • One of the dangerous diseases that can occur in the testes and scrotum is testicular cancer. Some symptoms that can appear in testicular cancer are swelling of the scrotum and testicles, pain or heaviness in the lower abdomen or around the scrotum, and breast enlargement. But sometimes, the condition can not cause symptoms, especially at the beginning of the disease.
Scrotum is very closely related to the testes, because these pockets protect and support the testes to produce normal sperm. Therefore, you should be aware of abnormalities that may occur in both of these organs. If there are complaints that lead to scrotal and testicular abnormalities, see a doctor immediately.
